And It Has Nothing to Do With How Much You Have To Do

You probably think you feel overwhelmed all the time because you have too much to do.

No matter how much you get done in a day, more tasks keep showing up.
And all you have to do to feel overwhelmed again… is look at your list.

What Overwhelm Actually Feels Like

Overwhelm is not just “a lot to do.” It’s that constant, nagging feeling of:

  • “I’m failing.”
  • “I’ll never catch up.”
  • “I’m so embarrassed.”

So, you try to push harder.

  • You work longer.
  • You stay focused as long as you can.
  • You try to get “on top of things.”

And even when you are in the zone and working as hard as you can…
You still doubt yourself and you don’t trust your system.

So, your mind keeps reminding you of all the other things you are not doing.

Why Are You Stuck in This Overwhelm Cycle?

The real issue is not your workload or feeling overwhelmed in business.
It’s how you are focusing.

You are either:

Focused too narrowly on details

You are in the weeds.

There are so many projects, so many moving pieces, that everything blends together into one giant pile of post-its.

There is no organization, prioritization or even sense of where things belong.

Nothing feels contained. Nothing feels complete.

Or you are focused too wide

You can see the big picture. You know what the projects are.

But because your focused so broadly, everything looks the same.

It’s like hovering high above a forest where every tree looks alike. Equally important. Equally urgent.

You know there is a direction. But you can’t find it.

Either way, your brain is overloaded, which is a major cause of productivity overwhelm.

And when your brain is overloaded, it does what it is designed to do. It tries to protect you.

  • By keeping everything active.
  • By reminding you constantly.
  • By refusing to let anything drop.
  • Or by shutting down entirely – in other words, procrastination

What Overwhelm Is Actually Costing You

Overwhelm is not just frustrating.
It is expensive. It costs:

Most people try to fix overwhelm by doing more.

  • More effort.
  • More time.
  • More pushing.

But that is not what works.

An hour of planning can change everything.

If it is the right plan.

You do not need to do less to stop feeling overwhelmed all the time.

You need to focus differently.

You need to fundamentally change how you think about your days.

Because overwhelm is not about how much you have to do. It is about how your time and attention are structured.
